Community
Consideration for your community and neighbors...it's contagious
Be a Good neighbor
- Maintain the space in front of and in back of your house including area
immediately outside of the fence.
- Use durable trash cans with tight fitting lids
- Placing trash in bags for collection is illegal and feeds rats
- No more than 2 (32 gal) cans per address
- Trash collection is once a week on Wednesdays. You may place cans between 8 p.m.
Tuesday evening and 6 a.m. Wednesday morning for pick up.
- Don't block alleys and sidewalks with your cans
- Never pile bags on the corner of your block or end of your alley
- Keep your sidewalks, gutters and alleys trash free
- Call 311 for bulk pick up - if it doesn't fit in your can - it's BULK!
- Violations can cost you as much as $500 per citation
-
Recycling is an important part of our effort to build a cleaner, greener
Baltimore. Now it is easier than ever with SINGLE STREAM RECYCLING.
Instead of separating your bottles, cans, jars and paper, you can now place
all these items in one container for collection.
DPW has also added more varieties of plastics which they will accept.
Plastic bottles and jars with 1 - 7 on the bottom, instead of just 1 - 2 ,
will now be collected. Collection day for recycled material in our area is
on Friday of each week. You may place cans between 8 p.m. Thursday evening and 6 a.m.
Friday morning for pick up.
Recycling FAQ's.
- Don’t put trash out on holidays. Place your garbage, recycling items and
bulk trash in front of your house for pickup. You must call in advance for
bulk trash pickup (311) or
use this online method.
- Be a snitch!! Those of us who live in Sandtown know that many a
contractor/hauler thinks our community is a good place to dump their refuse
illegally. If you see illegal dumping in progress, call 911. If you see
illegally dumped debris after the fact, call 410-396-4707 to get it cleaned
up ASAP.
Pets
- Walk pets in available areas and respect “no dogs” areas.
- Clean up after your animals, it's the law.
-
Licensing is required by Baltimore City.
- “Nuisance” barking is not tolerated.
- Dogs must be leashed or under control of owner/walker at all times.
- Dog Fighting - Why you should care.
- Cats - Why you should get them fixed and why it
is cruel to let them outside.
Snow Removal
Each residence is responsible for snow removal in front and in back of the
house. If renting, you are responsible for removing snow and/or ice. You might
ask the owner to provide a shovel, broom and sand. If you are a homeowner and
your house is vacant, you must make arrangements to have walkways cleared. The
Baltimore City Code (Article 19, section 177) states that snow must be cleared
within three hours after the snow has fallen unless it stops between 3 p.m. and
6 a.m.; in which case it must be removed before 11 a.m.
